| The Hood loft in Tasmania was established in 1970 and became involved with the Hood organisation in 1977. Ian Ross, has been involved with the loft since 1975 except for a two year stint at Hood’s in Melbourne. Ian and Sue took over the loft in 1982 and have been servicing the Tasmanian sailing community since then, initially at Salamanca Place and then from the present loft in Regent St Sandy Bay.
Ian has competed internationally and nationally in everything from dinghies to keel boats as well as doing 14 Sydney to Hobart yacht races over the 28 years he has been in the sailmaking industry. Stewart Gray has been sailmaking for five years, and last year spent the southern winter at the Hood loft in the U.K. where he gained valuable experience handling big boat sails. Stewart’s sailing interests are mainly in Lasers and 420’s with some keel boat sailing on Grundig at the last Sailing South Regatta. Mark Jeffrey joined the organisation in 2001 and has been working with 420 sailors as well as sailing on a Jarkan 38. Mark has extensive experience with 420’s and is looking forward to his first Sydney/Hobart. | ||
